The Maddie’s® Shelter Medicine Program offers educational lectures and workshops to animal shelters. Lectures and workshops address medical or behavior issues.

Listed below are the lectures offered regarding medical/physical wellness in the shelter. Shelters can request any combination of the lectures to be presented at their workshop. Estimated times for each presentation are listed so that you can plan your half-day (4 hours) or full-day (8 hours) workshop.
- Feline Respiratory Complex - causes, treatment and prevention (1.5 hrs)
- Canine Respiratory Complex - causes, treatment and prevention (1 hr)
- Identification & Management of Infectious Disease - such as parasitic diseases, parvovirus, distemper and ringworm (1hr for each topic)

Canine Behavior Assessment (Temperament Testing) Workshops
Shelters may request a comprehensive workshop that deals exclusively with canine behavior assessments. This workshop involves a lecture on why shelters should conduct behavior assessments, which includes a presentation of the results from Ms. Bollen’s two-year research project on the validity and reliability of their use. The workshop also includes live demonstrations of the assessment procedure.
Day-long workshops consists of 3 hours of lecture and the rest of the time dedicated to hands-on demonstration of the procedure using live dogs (provided by the shelter).
Two-day workshop would involve the above plus hands-on instruction for staff performing the evaluation on day two.
Workshop Fees
Shelters will be responsible for all travel expenses in addition to the below professional fee.
Half-day workshop......$350
Full-day workshop......$500
Shelters are encouraged to work with other area shelters to share the expenses of the workshop.
